An arts and entertainment writer since 1990, David Rooney was previously chief Italian correspondent and later New York film reporter and reviewer, chief theater critic, and New York bureau chief for Variety, before becoming chief film critic for The Hollywood Reporter. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Rolling Stone, among other publications. He has served on the nominating jury of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and multiple times for the Gotham Awards. He’s also a member of the National Society of Film Critics and the New York Drama Critics Circle.
