Rafer Guzman has been the film critic for Newsday since 2008. He is the regular film critic for PRI’s nationally syndicated morning show “The Takeaway,” the co-host of the WNYC podcast “Movie Date” and an occasional guest on the public radio show “Soundcheck.” He was a staff writer at The Wall Street Journal for four years before joining Newsday as a rock critic in 2002. His freelance work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Blender, The San Francisco Bay Guardian, The East Bay Express, and the late, great Option magazine. He has a bachelor’s degree in English from UC Berkeley and graduated with honors from Columbia University’s School of Journalism. He lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with his wife and two children.
