LISA SCHWARZBAUM joined Entertainment Weekly as a senior writer in 1991, and became one of the magazine’s two film critics in 1995. In addition, she contributes book reviews, essays, and cultural criticism. Her career began in Boston, where she wrote about dance for The Boston Globe and classical music for The Real Paper.
Born in Queens, NY, and raised in Hewlett, NY, she returned to New York City to work in various writing and editing capacities at The Dial, public television’s monthly magazine, eventually becoming editor-in-chief. She was also a feature writer at The New York Daily News, and wrote a weekly column for the Daily News Sunday Magazine. Her freelance articles and reviews have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, Redbook, and numerous other publications. Schwarzbaum, who holds a B.A. degree from Sarah Lawrence College, reviews films regularly on CNN, and on other national and local TV and radio programs. She is a member of the National Society of Film Critics.
