Ms. Adams reviews films for Us Weekly. From 1993 until early 2000, the past Chair of the New York Film Critics Circle was the New York Post film critic, where she continues to write about family TV. She writes regularly for Interview Magazine, as well as The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Cosmopolitan International, Glamour, Glamour en Espaniol, The Christian Science Monitor, Indie Magazine, American Bookseller Magazine and The Independent.

She has appeared as a guest on: CNN, CNBC, Access Hollywood, USA Live, PBS's Cinema, MSNBC, MSG Metro Learning, Fox News Channel, Drudge, Geraldo, NBC's America's Talking Network and the Rolanda Show. She is a frequent commentator on BBC Arts World Service "On Screen."

In 2000, Ms. Adams was a Video Magic Award Judge for Parenting Magazine. She regularly hosts the New York Film Critics present Coming Attractions Film Class where she has interviewed Paul Schrader, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Frank Capra III, among others.

In spring 1993, she received a Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia's School of the Arts. In 1985, she earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she specialized in Arts Management. In 1981, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley where she was also the valedictorian. She has worked at the American Film Institute, the Independent Feature Project, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Studio Museum in Harlem.

She lives in Brooklyn with her husband Ranald, son Trevor and daughter Elizabeth.
